The Shawshank Redemption
Released in 1994 The Shawshank Redemption has been described as ‘life changing’ and ranks above Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump on the AFI’s top 100 movies list. Andy Baker who is played by Tim Robbins is wrongfully convicted of a double murder and serves time in the Shawshank State Penitentiary where he meets fellow inmate Ellis “Red” Redding who is played by Morgan Freeman. Chicken Run is the kind of kids’ cartoon you can watch as an adult and still be entertained. The stop motion feature follows several chickens’ lives in their concentration style home. One hen named Ginger tries again and again to escape but is always thwarted by the farm owner’s dogs. It is only when the chickens realise that their evil owner Mrs Tweedy has purchased machinery to make pies out of them that all of the chickens jump on board (quite literally!) in an attempt to escape their farm once and for all. Yes, it is a cartoon movie about chickens but it is also a clever movie about hope and daring, two key elements of any awesome escape!
